Get help now
In an emergency
If someone needs medical help call 999, or if at a festival, alert a member of festival staff immediately, such as medical, welfare or security. Stay with the person. Tell the medical team everything you know about what has been taken. It could save a life.
What to look out for
If someone isn’t reacting well to alcohol and/or drugs, they could be panicking, anxious, overheated, sleepy or having trouble breathing, etc
You should:
- Try and stay calm
- Try and reassure them and calm them down, e.g. “this will pass” “it’s just the drugs”
- Do not scare them
- Try to take them somewhere quiet
- Ask them to breathe slowly
- Get them to sip water
- Most importantly stay with them
If they become unconscious call an ambulance immediately and place them in the recovery position. Stay with them until the ambulance arrives.
